With over 10 years experience running Summer Camp Food Service cooking for over 500 campers and staff, we understand what it takes to run a successful Camp Food Service operation. The relationships that we build with our Chefs, Camp Partners, and Staff are very important to us because they are the lifeblood of our business.
It didn't start that way.... In order to tell you our story, we need to go back 8 years to a Overnight Camp in Maine.
I (Alex) was managing a Summer Camp Kitchen where I really had the chance to put out a good product. Campers and staff were enjoying the food and service which brought me huge joy in seeing their happy faces and getting to know them.
I will be the first to admit that running a Summer Camp kitchen is no small task!
I quickly noticed that one of the real keys to doing so was simple - happy people in the kitchen (followed by some skill and experience). It is really the only way that you can run a successful food service operation at Summer Camp. The work is hard, the hours are long, and it's non-stop. Regardless of the challenges, I loved it! I loved the nature! I loved the people! And I loved the accomplishment of successfully going through the season.
For the next 8 years I would run Operations for a Food Service company doing just that - providing quality Food Service to Summer Camps across the USA and it was a wonderful experience with lots of ups, downs, and memorable experiences at many different camps. There is something special being at camp and each camp holds its own magic.
I have now decided to take on the challenge myself and that's why I have created and launched Summer Camp Cooks! I wanted to do things differently and create a culture of passion and appreciation - which is exactly what we are doing!
I aim to empower my Chefs and Managers with the ability to excel, learn, and pave the way for Summer Camp Cooks of the future.
